I spoke to a woman today who bought a bull terrier from sly eyes kennels. She and I spoke about how her puppy had demodex mange. She paid about 2400 to fully cure him of it. On the breeders web site they dont cover demodex and it clearly states it doesn't cover any of the following...

"The
puppy is guaranteed for one
year from the puppy’s date of birth for any
life threatening congenital/hereditary disorders or six months from
the date of purchase on older dogs. Any
known fault will be disclosed in advance and in writing. There are
certain disorders
that may be caused by environmental factors,
for example: allergies, thyroid dysfunction, demodectic mange, and other
autoimmune
disorders that are not covered by this
guarantee. The seller is not responsible for stress related illness such
as hypoglycemia,
colds, coccidia, giardia, nor kennel cough.
The following things are not covered in the health guarantee
molero,internal/external
parasites, physical problems which is or could
be the result of injury (hip dysplasia), collapsing trachea, hernias,
non decending
testicals, luxating patellas or breed
ability."

Several of what is listed are actually genetic, esp hernias, mange, autoimmune disorders, luxating patellas, hip dysplasia, retained testicles. Seems like to me someone who wants to protect themselves from bad breeding...what do others think of this? I would like to write up a good guarantee on my pups and looking for some ideas.

Unfortunately skin problems and allergies are common problems amoungst the bull terrier breed. Yes, there are some significant skin disorders that can be associated with Bull Terriers. However (through my experience) 80% of the Bull Terriers I've come into contact with that had a skin disorder was found to be the result of an improper diet rich in grain. I've rescued several Bull Terriers that had bad skin issues where patches of fur were missing, no fur on the feet, excessive shedding, scabs and abrasions, etc which were often misdiagnosed for mange, mites, pyodermas, neurodermatitis, ringworm, hookworm, fleas, and hot spots.

Most often the cause of skin allergies within Bull Terriers is caused from poor diets consisting on a dog food with high amounts of grain. My biggest recommendation to anyone that has a canine with skin problems is to, first and foremost, concentrate on a proper diet free of grain. There are many grain free dogs on the market. I personally like to use Taste of the Wild. Here's a link to website which lists several grain free dog foods: Grain Free Dry Dog Foods.

Proper and professional tests can be conducted by a veterinarian to determine the cause of a canine skin disorder.

I do realize this forum is strictly for Bull Terriers, but I am in some trouble and didn't really know where else to turn than to people who are informed about a breed close to the one I am dealing with. I live in Kentucky and people here are terrified of Pit Bulls and Bull Terriers and help is limited. Ginger is a red nose pit who is about 2. I recently rescued her from an animal shelter, while she was there she was under the care of a vet but I don't believe the information I was given was very accurate because his remedies are not working. Since she has came home we have sought out the care of another vet and he gave the same diagnosis. Vet visits are expensive and I can't afford for her to keep going with no help in sight. The vets both said she has a skin infection, then put her on antibiotics, and recommended lime dips periodically. This has helped very little and has went on for a little over 3 months. She is covered in some sort of rash, she has hair loss and will scratch until she is bleeding she has a horrible odor despite bath after bath. My first thought was that she may have some sort of mange. The vet done scraping's and said that's it's not mange. So I'm at a loss. Every day I put Benadryl gel on her along with antibiotic cream. I have done so much research it's unreal and I am still at loss, she has no fleas, it's not an allergic reaction. Blue pits and red pits are both prone to skin issues and I just really need help pin pointing what is going on with her. I still believe it may be demodex mange, it's not contagious but hereditary. I'm posting pictures so please any help is welcome.
